This particular book was requested so that I could get a head start on using the Adobe Creative Suite, which was received for placing 1st in the 2005 APCUG Newsletter competition. I have reviewed several other computer related books from O'Reilly, and figured that this would be the way to go, instead of just installing the software and experimenting.
The book is divided into 21 different chapters and I have summarized what they cover below:
- Chapter 1: Bridge & Version Cue: The Hub for Creative Suite 2
- Bridge is where you can browse, view and organize files. Version Cue manages and organizes files, creates projects and makes versions of files.
- Chapters 2 thru 5: Photoshop related
- What Photoshop is and how it relates to the other parts of the Creative Suite. When and when not to use Photoshop for a task. How to use with other Creative Suite applications.
- Chapters 6 thru 9: Illustrator related
- What Illustrator is and how it relates to the other parts of the Creative Suite. When and when not to use Illustrator for a task. How to use with other Creative Suite applications.
- Chapters 10 thru 13: Acrobat Professional related
- Overview and usage of Acrobat as part of the Creative Suite. When to use native files vs. PDF. How to use with other Creative Suite applications.
- Chapters 14 thru 17: InDesign related
- Overview and when to use Photoshop or Illustrator instead. How to use with other Creative Suite applications.
- Chapters 18 thru 21: GoLive related
- Overview, designing and creating websites with GoLive. Integrating files from Photoshop images, Illustrator files, InDesign packages and Acrobat Smart PDF Objects into GoLive.
As usual with O'Reilly publications, the layout and sequencing of the information flowed in a logical progression from one portion of the suite to the other explaining how each related to the other and when and why to use a particular piece rather than another.
This book has me champing at the bit to get started using Adobe Creative Suite 2 for C:/BPCA News.
