Installation of the mouse was simple. It is connected via USB. After installation, my computer found the mouse without any problem.

The shape of the Microsoft Wireless Intellipoint Mouse is, in my opinion, conducive to easy movements. The middle part of the mouse is higher than the other mice on the market, so that it fits the palm of the hand more comfortably. The controls were placed much the same as in other mice. The Intellipoint has several additional controls.

After installation, I went to control panel and looked for the Microsoft Wireless Intellipoint Explorer Mouse and went through the various options that they give you. The right and left buttons are in approximately the same place. Microsoft has given this mouse two extra buttons, one to page forward and another to page back, which is amazingly handy when you are researching anything on the web. The wheel is placed in the same place as in all the mice. The really big difference is that you can program all five of these buttons to do whatever it is that you want it to do. You actually have about 40 different choices for each one of the buttons, aside from the right click/left click/forward/back. Can you imagine!!. You can program each of the five buttons to auto scroll, go back, go forward, keystroke, alt, backspace, click lock, close, copy, and on and on and on.

In addition to the regular pointer, there are 14 other symbols, most of which are on all mice, for instance, the regular hourglass, the pen that indicates handwriting, the vertical, horizontal and diagonal resize, etc. The pointer options are fairly standard, the pointer speed, the pointer tail. You can hide the pointer while you are typing which is a big plus if you are writing a lengthy research paper. Also, you can show the location of the pointer when you press the Ctrl key.

The wheel allows you to scroll many lines at a time. My personal preference is to scroll three or four lines at a time, but the Intellipoint allows you many more options in scrolling lines.

One of the activities of the Microsoft Wireless Intellipoint Mouse is the click lock, which enables you to highlight or drag without holding down the button.

I tried to use the Microsoft Wireless Intellipoint Explorer Mouse from about six feet away from the computer, sitting comfortably on the couch and scrolling through various pages on the web. My only problem was certainly not the mouse because it performed flawlessly, but my eyesight. I simply could not read from that distance. Of course, I put this in my review for information, as well as levity.

The requirements for the Wireless Intellipoint Mouse are Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP, 128MB RAM, 25 MB free space.
