Installation was on a 300 Mhz Celeron 32 bit system with 64 MB RAM, 6 GB hard drive with a single partition (3.74GB used space before installation), and Windows 98. The installation took approximately 4 minutes from the time of insertion of the installation CD and creation of rescue disks 1 & 2 took another 3 minutes.
I created a new 1.5 GB partition to hold all my data separate from everything else, this took 45 minutes including using DriveMapper to automatically update drive letter references. Keeping all my data in a separate partition has cut down drastically on the amount of fragmentation and makes data back up very simple. I intend to create another partition at another time to keep all the program files, plus another that will have only the swap file to further cut down on fragmentation.
PartitionMagic 7.0 allows you to create, resize, merge and convert partitions without destroying your data. Without such a program it would be necessary to completely reformat your hard drive and starting from scratch, creating the desired partitions and then reloading everything to the different partitions. You can convert FAT partitions to FAT32 partitions and vice versa. There is support for hard disks up to 80 GB, the ability to undelete partitions using the rescue disk, it integrates with Windows Defragmenter and has support for external USB hard disks. This program allows you to run multiple operating systems on the same computer (I have not yet used this feature) and includes the BootMagic boot manager to help safely install new operating systems and choose which you want to use when starting up.
A printed user guide came in the package and was clear and easy to follow, and a searchable PDF version is place on your computer at the time of installation.
I have been wanting to use something like this for a long time to organize my hard drive to keep data files and applications separate. This was so easy to set up and use I don't think it will be long before I start utilizing the multiple operating system feature and add an exterior USB hard drive also.
This is far and away the easiest to install and utilize software that I have run across. That said, this is not for everyone, a good amount of computer knowledge is necessary to get the full benefits of such a program.
