MGI is one of the leading web &PC photo software companies. They are leaders in digital photography. I downloaded the program without any problems. The software is installed from 2 CD ROM discs. There were problems with the original CDs and difficulty in removing the application so that new CDs could be used, (more on this later). The on screen instructions were very easy to follow. You can download all the plugins supplied with the software, or they can be installed at a later date, if that would be better for you.
This new version has the capabilities for creating and publishing web sites. The program contains pre designed web templates, to which you can add your own images. It greatly simplifies a very difficult task.
The program can also be used to send photos by e-mail. The improvements in the program over previous versions of the product, is quiet dramatic. You can now create cutouts and transparencies, a photo sprayer, which allows you to paint with pictures. It also contains an image viewer, which allows you to quickly image content. There are cards supplied with the program that you can add your own pictures to, and send by snail mail or by e-mail, such as using Hotmail. You can scan pictures into the program, work on them and then send them to another card creation program such as Home Publishing. The program will also work with most of the new digital cameras that are now becoming so popular. The program comes with various fonts for special effects. Pictures can even be set up into photo albums.
Here is the sequence of events that occurred with PhotoSuite 4. I installed the program as per instructions. When I clicked on the desk top icon, I received a message that the program could not find the execution file for the program. I sent a fax to technical support, but never received any answer. I then sent an e-mail to tech support, again never received an answer. After waiting a few days, I called the sales office. explained the problem to them. They told me that some bad software was sent out by mistake, and they would send me new software.
I received the new software, and tried to install it. I was not able to install the new software as I was not able to fully delete the previous program completely. I called technical support, which does not have a toll free number. When I explained the problem, they sent me an e-mail, stating this was a known problem, with instructions on how to delete the file and a download on how to install program. This also did not work.
I called tech support again, and was told the previous instructions were incorrect. He had me go into explorer and delete files. These instructions completely fouled up my computer. I called Dell and after 2 days of trying to help me, I was told the only way to clear up the problem was to use FDISK to reformatted the hard drive. I then had to reinstall Win 98 and all my other programs. As previously stated, I am glad I listened to Steve Martin and backed up most of my work, including my AOL. When all this was completed, I received an e-mail to please restate the exact nature of the problem. They apologized for the delay as they were very busy.
