Title: Dataviz Conversions Plus Suite 5 Vendor: Dataviz Price: $99.95
Requirements: Win9x, NT, 2K and 16.5M hard disk space

This program is suitable for Win 95/98/ 2000 and NT4.0. There is no other mention of system requirements. However, I installed it on a system with a Cyrix 300 MMX CPU with 64 Megs RAM. I noticed that the program required 16.5 Megs of hard drive space for its folder as well as a small amount of space in Windows System folder. There is also a folder, which is deposited on the hard drive and is used for conversion results.

This program is a utility that helps you use and access files regardless of what format that are they are in or where they came from. With Conversions Plus you can:Open files that Windows does not recognize. Convert files for use in your favorite programs.View and print files even if you don't have the programs that created to file. Decompress any archive file. Decode and use file attachments you received by email. Read, right and format Macintosh disk in your PC

The installation was straightforward. I inserted the CD-ROM and the program came to the screen. It provided the opportunity to install, remove or browse the disk. According to the manual, if the program does not start automatically you can go to the CD and run setup.

A 56 page manual is provided which includes eight chapters and five appendixes. A welcome section basically describes the program and its capabilities. It includes information about terminology, installation, and technical support. The chapters 1 through 7 cover matter of opening files, printing files, decompressing files, retrieving files from e-mail, preferences involving the program and the procedure for using a Macintosh disk in a PC.

Also included with the package is a getting started booklet. This is a small compact booklet of only 13 pages. It is in most cases sufficient guidance for performing the task available with the program.

My main reason for looking at this software is that in times past I ran into many files that I could not open, all I could see was a lot of unrecognizable symbols. Some of these included the Mime format. While I have not had a chance to apply the program to the a Mime format file I am confident based on what I experienced so far, it should not be a problem.

When you install Conversion plus, it will have the option to use it as your default decompression utility. I chose not to use Conversions plus as my default decompression utility. However, in my early trials of the program I did not have any difficulties as everything worked smoothly. In fact if I did not have a need to compress files from time to time I could eliminate my main Zip program.

A feature that I particularly like is that the program can be used to view and print files even if you don't have the program that created the file. I had an opportunity to look at data in an old unknown DOS program. While I could not immediately use the data at least I could read it and print it if I needed to. Also at times I wished that I could use Macintosh software on the PC and files created on the PC could be used with Macintosh machines. I did make an attempt to convert a Word document to Claris for use in a Macintosh. The operation did seem to go well. However, because of the lack of equipment at hand I was not able to follow through to check results.

I am favorably impressed with the program and would recommend it. I am not sure about the price given above as I took it from a hand written sticker on the package. If it is correct I would considerate it a little steep compared to other utilities I have used.
