I’ve been using Remove-It 95 for years and when this upgrade came out, couldn’t wait to try it. It has always been easy to use, selecting the appropriate button activates the desired function, and there are many. I never install an application without activating the Capture-It function which records every file that is installed and every change in the win95 registry. This new version has over 1300 applications in its Installation Knowledge Base, the information that is needed if you want to remove an application that was installed on your computer before Remove-It 98 is installed.

Programs can be uninstalled from the Control Panel’s Add/Remove section, but only if they were installed through that Microsoft function. They can be deleted in Windows Explorer but bits and pieces of files remain in the registry and who knows where. After installation through Capture-It, the Remove-It function safely removes every file and change, and the system is restored to the previous status.

Cleanup Coach guides you through all of the removal functions from the Remove-It section, listing a detailed report of deleted files. Remove-It does just that...removes all traces of an application from your hard drive, making a backup copy in the process in case you change your mind or even worse, find that the computer is not working properly after the removal. You can restore the system to its previous status. It shows which files are being used by other applications and tells you that these will not be removed, it even warns you to create a backup before the process begins.

Reinstall-It quickly restores any file or application removed by this program. Find-It helps you locate duplicate, orphan, and unused files that clutter up your HD for deletion, again making a backup.

Clean-It allows you to remove unneeded files and fonts, again saving the deleted items in a backup file...just in case.

Move-It moves applications to different drives or directories, making a tedious and dangerous process easy and troublefree.

Store-It is used to compress an application that is used infrequently, saving disk space. A simple double click on its icon will run it from the archived file.

Watch-It runs in the background, getting information on which files are used or not used, enabling you to choose which might be safely removed. Transfer-It enables you to create self-installing backups of applications.

Recover-It creates an emergency recovery disk that can be used if configuration files or settings are corrupted or deleted.

It doesn’t seem possible that this inexpensive program can do so much and so well, but it does. Accolades to Quarterdeck.
