Fortunately, this program is for beginners. That would definitely be me! No experience needed other than basic windows skill. That about covers my experience! I'm working from the CD. I thought I would be able to install the CD and not have to keep it in, but such is not the case. Perhaps if I were not a beginner I would have known that.
My biggest complaint about this program is that it covers my desktop and I am not able to interact with my own computer while learning from the program. This may be the case with all programs run from a CD and I'm the only one who doesn't understand this. Anyhow, I found this to be bothersome. This is a very large program and for sure I can't remember everything covered in any one lesson. Second best would be to be able to print out some helpful information or steps along the way. I find myself spending a great deal of time writing notes so that when I access my computer I'll know where to go.
As for subject matter, probably more than I'll ever need to know, but it did keep my attention the whole time. In the year since I've had a computer the one thing that intimidated me most was the internet. What is the World Wide Web and how do I find anything? HTTP? WWW? USENET? FTP? GOPHER? JAVA? LINKING? URL? DOWNLOAD? ARCHIE? VERONICA? And the list goes on! I'm sure I'm suffering brain overload, but since I get to keep the CD I'll be able to continue my experimenting at a slower pace. It will be sometime before I know what all these things are and when to use what, to go where.
The nicest feature of the program is the index. I sometimes know exactly what I'm looking for, but I don't know where to look. Viola! The index!
I've been through the whole eight lessons at least five times so now I'm just picking particular items. Working on my own computer, when I just can't get things right with my wonderful notes, I go back to the CD for just single topics. Saves a good deal of time, I'm sure.
While working with this program my computer popped up a window that said something about system resource overload. Many times! Called son-in-law, HELP! He told me to go into windows explorer and dump some stuff. Okay, I think. Also do scan disk, and defrag. Okay, maybe. Shut down too. Well, when next I tried to run CD, NO sound! Told you I was a beginner! Anyhow, I restored everything from the recycle bin and I'm back in business. Guess I won't dump anything else. The system overload thing has disappeared so I'll leave well enough alone.
I have every expectation of surfing the net in the near future like an old pro!
