My six year old daughter was given the Jump Start Reading disk. We found the program enjoyable and easy to run. The animation was very cute and kept her attention well. The progress report was a great idea for parents as well as students using the program!
For younger/newer readers, a "key" or "help" icon to click on (something in a corner separate from the regular program) would have been extremely helpful. This key would have each word written out so that younger students would simply have to copy to get the correct answer in each game.
The antonyms section was the most difficult concept for my daughter to grasp, and she scored most poorly here. More and continual emphasis on the word opposite would have helped her. Opposite is a more familiar word than antonym at this age.
The puzzle concept was great. Even my ten year old completed the task to solve it. My six year old would sometimes become frustrated at not being able to obtain the tickets to even get to the puzzle part, and that's why I think a help icon as suggested earlier would have benefitted her greatly.
